Integration of the HOOPS 3D Graphics System with Qt

February 26, 1999

Trolltech and Tech Soft America (TSA), developer of the popular HOOPS(R) 3D Graphics System today announced the addition of the Qt cross-platform UI toolkit to the growing list of complementary development tools for HOOPS.

This announcement is the latest step in Tech Soft's effort to integrate HOOPS with other major development components in order to create an interoperable set of powerful, easy-to-use tools for the rapid production of market-leading software applications.

A demonstration of the integration of Qt and HOOPS will be given for the first time at the Linux World Expo in San Jose March 2-4, 1999 at the Trolltech booth No. 1943.

HOOPS is a graphics subsystem component that delivers advanced graphics performance and functionality in applications from companies such as Parametric Technology Corp. (PTC), SDRC, Mechanical Dynamics, MicroCADAM, Tecnomatix, Fluent, ITI, ANSYS/Centric, Pam Systems, Minitab and in over 150 other applications globally, with particular popularity in the CAD/CAM/CAE, GIS and Geophysical markets.

HOOPS supported platforms list includes Windows 95/98/NT, Dec Alpha, HPUX, IBM AIX, SGI IRIX, SUN SOLARIS, and Linux as well as numerous other platforms through obfuscated source code.

Qt is a user interface toolkit that provides powerful and professional GUI functionality. Qt is cross-platform, so developers can rapidly and easily build applications that function unaltered on all major Unix brands and Windows 95/98/NT.

Trolltech's customers include over 200 companies worldwide. Qt is also well known by Linux users as the basis of KDE -- the graphical desktop environment preferred by most major Linux distributors.

Jeff Cooper, director of development for Interface Products at Mechanical Dynamics, said, "We are continually looking for partners like Tech Soft and Trolltech to provide expertise outside our core competency. Leveraging industry accepted components like HOOPS and Qt increases the efficiency of our development team by letting us focus on Virtual Prototyping. We have successfully used HOOPS for years in the development of the ADAMS product line and have been pleased with the ease of integration with Qt."

Ron Fritz, director of Business Development for TSA commented, "This is another step in our quest to deliver true Whole Product Solutions to our customers. Following our integrations with Parasolid, ACIS, Motif and MFC, our customers asked us for a cross-platform UI development solution. "

"This integration with the Qt toolkit will give them a powerful, proven UI development option to complement their use of HOOPS. We were attracted to Qt as a solution because of the positive experiences of some of our customers as well as Troll's reputation for producing quality software and providing outstanding support."

"We're confident our customers will benefit from the ability to write their UI from a very high level and if they are looking to deliver their application on multiple platforms, that will even further increase the value of Qt for them."

Haavard Nord, CEO of Trolltech AS commented, "Our customers have been asking for a robust, commercial-grade 3D graphics solution to complement their use of Qt and we were pleased to work with Tech Soft to deliver such a powerful solution. We are impressed with the growing list of dedicated customers HOOPS has, its wide range of functionality and Tech Soft's commitment to deliver excellent whole products."

"Like Qt, HOOPS is a cross-platform tool that allows developers to work from a very high level and thus focus on their true value add so it is a very synergistic technology partnership. We anticipate significant interest from our customer base for HOOPS and this integration."

About Tech Soft

Tech Soft America (TSA) provides premier customer driven development tools, consulting and support services enabling their partners to rapidly deliver world-class technical software.

TSA develops the HOOPS 3D Graphics System, a high-level, object oriented application framework that dramatically simplifies the design, development and maintenance of high-performance, interactive 2D and 3D graphics applications built for PCs and UNIX workstations.

HOOPS encapsulates highly optimized data structures and algorithms for the creation, editing, storage, manipulation, querying, rendering and printing of the 3D graphical information needed for the rapid production of advanced, commercial-grade graphics applications.

Many of the world's leading technical software applications, including; Pro/Mechanica, CADDS5, Optegra Visualizer, ICEMSurf, and EPD.Connect from PTC, CAMAND from SDRC, Helix Design System from MicroCADAM, ADAMS from Mechanical Dynamics, Fluent5, Rampant and Cortex from Fluent, Excaline from Tecnomatix, IGES/Works and STEP/Works from ITI, the PAM_SYSTEM series of applications from PAM System International are currently shipping with HOOPS.

Globally, over 100 commercially shipped applications rely on the HOOPS Graphics System as their core graphics subsystem.
