Qt Jambi 4.4 Brings Benefits of Qt 4.4 to Java Programmers
Trolltech today announced the launch of Qt Jambi 4.4 – the latest version of its application framework for Java™ development. Qt Jambi is based on the recently-launched Qt 4.4, and brings its benefits to Java developers: including the ability to develop web and multimedia enriched applications across desktop operating systems.
Qt Jambi builds on the C++ version of Qt to deliver rich functionality to developers using the Java programming language. With Qt Jambi 4.4, Java programmers can now build more advanced, rich desktop applications that incorporate a range of new features, including:
- Qt WebKit Integration – Using WebKit, the open source browser engine inside Apple’s Safari browser, the Apple iPhone and millions of Nokia smartphones, developers can now blend web and native content and functionality, create innovative user interfaces, and deliver a consistent, web-enriched user experience.
- Multimedia framework – Integration with Phonon, a multimedia framework developed in conjunction with the KDE community makes it easy for Java programmers to integrate rich multimedia content into applications.
- Widgets in Graphics View – Qt Jambi adds the flexibility of embedding widgets into a scene, bringing layouts, styling, pop-ups and even window decorations into the canvas realm, and allowing the rotation, scaling, and application of perspective transformations to widgets.
- Concurrency Framework – Qt Jambi’s new concurrency API makes it easy to develop multithreaded applications and take advantage of multi-CPU systems.
- Enhanced XML support – Incorporating Qt’s support for the XQuery standard, Qt Jambi enables developers to query, extract and transform data from XML encoded content in Qt Jambi applications.
Beyond the features it inherits from the C++ version of Qt, Qt Jambi 4.4 also includes a number of optimizations and new features specific to the Java version, such as: an improved memory model, added Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) support and an improved deployment system.
