Qt in Automotive Infotainment

Automotive manufacturers are increasingly viewing in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems as a key differentiator in their vehicles

Qt is an ideal application and UI framework for OEMs and Tier1s to reduce their software development costs and deliver innovative user experience to drivers and passengers.

The Qt Advantage in Automotive Infotainment

The Qt cross-platform application and UI framework allows automotive OEMs and Tier1s to:

  • Easily re-use and customize the UI to fit different requirements and hardware specifications
  • Maintain flexibility to rapidly update, adapt and change the user experience
  • Leverage hardware support for performance, graphics, media and connectivity
  • Integrate web content and services through the Qt Webkit Integration
  • Benefit from a thriving Qt ecosystem
  • Choose commercial or open source licensing to fit project requirements

  • Rely on professional Qt support and consulting services

Supported Platforms:

Architectures used:

  • ARM
  • Intel
  • MIPS

* Community support only.

Qt-Based Nokia Terminal Mode Reference Implementation

Have a look at how Terminal Mode works with a Volkswagen Passat. Note: This is not based on the Qt Terminal Mode Reference Implementation.

The Qt-based Terminal Mode reference implementation is available for the client/head-unit side on qt.gitorious.org. This software package is part of the Terminal Mode Prototype Kit, available through Forum Nokias Terminal Mode Developer Program.

The Qt-based reference implementation has been tested on the MeeGo IVI v 1.0, Windows Embedded 7 Automotive and QNX.

  • Go to the Qt for IVI repository to get the Qt-based Terminal Mode reference source code and contribute back to Qt

The Terminal Mode technology specification, released by the Nokia and CE4A (Consumer Electronics for Automotive) working group, is a proposed industry standard for the integration of mobile applications into the car environment. The specification is open to all automotive and mobile device manufacturers.
