  • Serves both users who simply want to listen to their music and music lovers who want to learn more while listening by integrating external services like wikipedia and lyrikwiki.
  • Handles huge music collections and makes them easy to manage by providing powerful tagging and sorting abilities
  • Creates playlists according to various criteria
  • Easily integrates webbased services through script extensions and provides a well documented API for custom scripts

"Qt lifts C++ to the next level. Creating Amarok without it would have been unthinkable."

Mark Kretschmann, Amarok Project Founder

Amarok and Qt

Amarok LogoWith the introduction of the Phonon API in Qt 4.4, Amarok developers were no longer forced to maintain their own multimedia framework. This increased both the speed of their development and freed them from rewriting parts of their code after a change in one of the underlying engines' APIs.

By using QtScript, Amarok developers offer easy access to core functionalities and provide users with the possibility to extend Amarok 2 to meet their needs by writing their own scripts or by downloading third party extensions they can use immediately.

Amarok 2 went completely cross-platform with Qt. The application integrates well with all supported operating systems and imports existing collections including playcounts from iTunes and Amarok 1.4.
