Brain Innovation
Qt aids Brain Innovation to expand its market share in the medical application field.
The Challenge
Brain Innovation, developers of a sophisticated medical application that
analyzes and displays functional MRI information for cognitive neuro-scientists
and medical professionals, wanted to expand beyond the Windows platform on
which its software product had initially been based to include Linux and Mac OS
X. The company was looking for a comprehensive development framework with an
easy-to-use toolkit that would make it possible for them to develop a native
look and feel on multiple platforms.
The Solution
Brain Innovation was able to port its software to multiple platforms with a
simple recompile, achieving cross-platform capability with a native look and
feel. Additionally, Brain Innovation found that Qt’s consistent object
orientation and sophisticated signal-slot mechanism greatly simplified the
development and maintenance burden on the company’s small programming team.
The Value
Brain Innovation can now target additional computer platforms from a single
source code base, allowing the company to expand its market reach without
adding development resources. The ease of use of the Qt framework has increased
productivity as well as developer satisfaction.
“It’s clear for me that one of the best decisions in my programming career
was to move to Qt after almost 10 years of experience with Microsoft APIs.
Switching to Qt means I have a clearer API now while targeting all major
computer platforms. That Qt makes this feasible for small companies at
reasonable costs makes me indeed happy.” – Ranier Boebel, General
Manager and Chief Software Designer, Brain Innovation
