The Challenge
MainConcept had initially developed its MainActor video editing and multimedia package as a Windows and OS/2 application. When the company decided to replace OS/2 with Linux, it looked for a solution that would enable it to port massive amounts of source code efficiently and easily to multiple platforms. It started with the Video Editor component, used to convert animations and picture lists to any format.

The Solution
Using Qt, the company was able to successfully port code to both Linux and Windows with each version appearing native to its own platform. Qt’s fully supported GUI library facilitated development. Additionally, Qt Software made itself available for bug fixes when necessary. MainConcept was so impressed with the success of its Video Editor port, it decided to port the entire application using Qt.
