Perforce Software
Qt reduced development time and costs were adding value and product enhancement.
Founded in 1995, Perforce Software develops, markets, and supports Perforce, the Fast Software Configuration Management (SCM) System. Perforce SCM versions and manages source code and digital assets for enterprises large and small.
The Challenge
To develop a cross-platform visual interface for its leading software configuration management (SCM) application, Perforce Software looked at a number of alternatives. The company not only needed an intuitive API, it also wanted to make certain that its application looked the same no matter what operating system the customer chose. Because Perforce typically releases a new version of the application approximately every six months, the company also needed a platform that would speed development.
The Solution
Qt, a leading cross-platform C++ development technology, provided an easy-to-use native graphical interface for users on Windows, Linux, Mac, Solaris and FreeBSD.
The Value
Faster development time meant lower costs and faster time to market for Perforce Software’s new SCM product. Additionally, with platform issues handled, the team had more time to focus on adding value to the application, resulting in enhanced product quality.
“The cross-platform capability is by far the most advantageous feature of Qt for us. I would venture to guess that our costs would double or triple if we had to write native applications on various platforms.” – Fred Malouf, Software Manager, Perforce Software
